An onscreen kiss has sent Bollywood’s hottest romance tumbling into rough weather. The year-long Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwarya Rai relationship recently hit turbulence when the Bachchans were invited to Yashraj Studio for an exclusive preview of Dhoom2 . Aishwarya too had flown down from Jaipur where she is shooting for Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Akbar-Jodha with Hrithik.

Sources said Aishwarya’s liplock with Hrithik in the film didn’t go down well with the Bachchans. And the entire family of actors was not appreciative of Ash’s acting prowess in the said scene. Until now Aishwarya, despite offers from Hollywood, had steadfastly maintained a no-kissing policy.

A close family friend confirms that though he was aware there were some passionate scenes between Hrithik and Ash, Abhishek was “very, very upset” on seeing the finished product. The full impact hit him only when he saw it on screen, says the friend, and he made his objection clear to Aishwarya.

Over the week, instead of celebrating the release of yet another film featuring them together, Aishwarya and Abhishek have been confronting uncomfortable questions that the kiss has thrown up in their relationship. Sources said her skimpy costumes too have not gone down well with the first family of Bollywood. “They are wondering where was the need for Aishwarya to change her demure image at this stage and agree to a full-blown kiss on film,” said the friend.

While Ash is maintaining a studied silence on the controversy, she reportedly attended the birthday party of the children of Abhishek’s sister, Shveta Nanda at her residence in Delhi, and was said to have behaved as if nothing was amiss. When asked about the kissing scene, Ash’s co-star and Abhishek’s childhood buddy Hrithik simply laughed it off and refused to comment. Obviously, Abhishek fails to find the humour in it.

Aishwarya Rai may have a very beautiful face, but she can’t beat Bipasha Basu in sex appeal.

Sanjay Gadhvi’s movie Dhoom 2 pits gorgeous Ash against sultry Bipasha in what is seen by many as the battle for looking sexier. Sorry to say that Ash comes nowhere near Bipasha in looking hot.

The theatre next to you is all set to sizzle with the multi-starrer sequel to Dhoom that sent the cash registers ringing in 2004.

Although, John Abraham is missing from the action but Hrithik and Ash make sure that there’s no dearth of oomph or style.

Star pressure?

While there has been some change in the star cast, Dhoom:2 retains Sanjay Gadhvi as the director. But the question with such an increased star power is – does the director feel pressurised?

“This is the first time I was dealing with the superstars – Hrithik Roshan & Aishwarya Rai. So the pressure was something that I was always aware of,” admits Gadhvi.

“I worked towards it and I made the pressure work for me because I am quiet happy with the results,” adds Gadhvi rather nonchalantly.

What’s Dhoom:2 all about?

Shot in as many as five exotic locales, Yashraj films’ Dhoom:2 is yet another chapter in the lives of cop Abhishek Bachchan and his sidekick Uday Chopra with Hrithik making AB baby chase after him – much like he chased John in the original Dhoom.

Dare-devil stunts

Dhoom:2 has Hrithik flying down with a parachute and landing on a moving train. Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik free-falling into a gorge from a height of 500 metres. Bipasha Basu hanging on a steep wall 100 feet high. Abhishek Bachchan riding a jet-ski on a rough sea. Uday Chopra driving a bike at great speed inside a tunnel.

And these are just a few vignettes, but the stars sure had the time of their life working hard and enjoying at the same time.

“We all have worked very hard on Dhoom:2. We work very well as a team, I thoroughly enjoyed working in Dhoom,” says Aishwarya Rai.

Ash vs Bips

Ash sure had to work twice as hard for she is up against yet another oomph queen Bipasha Basu.

Dhoom:2 is sure to garner a great opening – what with such a power packed star cast. And going by how audiences lapped up Dhoom original, the formula for success is still intact.

As for the box office verdict, you won’t have to wait for long.

"Aapke Dil Mein Thodisi Jagah Chahiye" – this is what Sanjay Dutt is crooning for his lady love! The only trouble is that the lady in question is not willing to bow down to his demands!

We are talking about the latest song that Sanjay Dutt has sung which is titled "Aapke Dil Mein Thodisi Jagah Chahiye". This forms a part of the album titled ‘Asha and Friends – Vol 1′ where legendary singer Ashaji has friends like Sanjay Dutt and Brett Lee exercising their vocals chords in a duet with her.

The album has just recently arrived on the stands and for its promotion, a music video featuring Ashaji and Sanjay Dutt has also been shot and premiered on air.

What is notable about the video is that it is natural to the core with real footage shot from the recording of the song. Further impressive is the child like obedience that Sanju baba shows to Ashaji as he learns some finer nuances from her while singing along.

Ensuring that they have at least one promotional music video for each of their films, this time around they have unleashed a brand new song titled ‘Kabul Fiza’ which is being used for the promotion of their upcoming release ‘Kabul Express’.
 
Composed and sung by Raghav Sachar with Aditya Dhar writing the lyrics, ‘Kabul Fiza’ is a racy track with superb arrangements which can currently be seen playing all over on the music channels. The music video features the lead protagonists of the film, John Abraham and Arshad Warsi, lip synching to this rocking track that features in a set resembling the Afghanistan terrain. Hanging bulbs on the frame only help giving the track further authenticity.
 
Also notable is that fact that both John and Arshad are shown in a chirpy mood with a smile on their faces as they happily sing and dance to the song in the most natural manner!

“It depends on how they look. If they are in a condition to work, I am ready to work them. It is very important for one to be presentable if you want to act in films at an advanced age,” she said.

While it would no doubt be engaging to see Hema clandestinely romance Bachchan in the film, the question is whether the Indian audiences would accept them both outside the backdrop of a family drama.

So, who’s bigger and better amongst the two? Let’s deconstruct….

Ash, the Miss World hasn’t had a great year. Her last release ‘Umrao Jaan’ failed miserably. Even her films for foreign producers have bombed big time (Mistress of Spices a case in point). Her ‘relationship’ with Abhishek Bachchan enjoys more curiosity value than her work. Yes, she is looking hot-n-sexy in the ‘Krazy Kiya’ number and her first time pairing with Hrithik Roshan is eliciting lots of curiosity. They do look good together.

Bipasha, a proverbial oomph girl has had a great year. After failing to register her presence in big hit ‘Phir Hera Pheri’ she made the critics sit up and take notice of her acting talents in Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Corporate’. No, she is not out to lose her glam doll image. In ‘Omkara’ her two numbers ‘Beedi’ and ‘Namak’ got more whistles than the crass language used in the film. Her on-off relationship with boyfriend John Abraham has been a cause of much media speculation but Bips continues to be her own boss. In ‘Dhoom 2′ she is looking like a goddess and that bikini look is worth dying for. Gear up for the whistles girl for ‘Touch Me Touch Me’….

Rarely ever do we look past the silver screens, into the lives of the actors themselves. I’m not talking about the senseless gossip the tabloids shamelessly put out – Rather, their real lives…their families.

Trishala (a.k.a. Trish) was born and raised in New York and lives with her grandparents. Being the daughter of Sanjay “Munnabhai” Dutt has to have its glories. But hardly ever do you gain without having to lose. “I get so many people after me. And who they really are is not always who they show me. Deep down they’re such full of drama. I hate drama. I can’t stand it and I will not deal with it.” She continues, “People come up to me, singing my dad’s songs like ‘Ishq Samundar’ and then blasting the music because they see me walking. I hate people like that.”

It’s hard to argue with something like that. Often times when we’re over-shadowed by a larger personality, people tend to view us as an extension of that person rather than an individual. Not only is it hurtful, but demoralizing as well. Expressing her frustration, “It’s hard. Why can’t you just come up to me and say ‘Hi. I just wanted to say…’”

It all started back when she was in High School she tells me. And she for one will have you know that popularity is not all that it promises to be. “It was the toughest four years of my life.”

But just like her father, underneath the tough, hard shell is something gooey soft. Her uncanny maturity and professional outlook were only a couple of things that caught my eye. After holding back long enough, I finally asked her about her future plans, and if films were waiting for her just around the corner. “Yes there are [acting plans]. But not in Bollywood. I’m doing much better off in Hollywood, as I’ve got a few offers but had to turn them down due to my age and schoolwork. It was very upsetting.” Impressively, some of the films she’s already turned down include Saw III (October 27), Marie Antoinette (October 20), and Casino Royale (November 16). She’s also signed a contract with the popular specialty clothing store Abercrombie & Fitch.

Upsetting it must have been in deed, but her patience is undeniable.

“Everything happens for a reason,” she tells me calmly. “I had to make a choice: Either sacrifice my entire life and pray the film does well. Or, I finish school and get a degree in something solid, so just in case, I have something to fall back on. I chose college over those films releasing now that I could have been in.” And once again with that envious dose of patience she says “I’m still young. There will be others.”

What makes a person wise? Is it the money they have, contacts they know, or the ability to see from a composed, all-encompassing perspective? For Trishala it’s the latter. Such an understanding of purpose and place is rarely realized by many star-children who have blindly jumped into the center-stage of glitz and glamour.

Many who have followed Sanjay Dutt’s career know that his journey has been nothing but smooth sailing. From the untimely death of his first wife, Richa Sharma, to the child custody battle with his in-laws, to his alleged involvement in the 1993 Mumbai bombings; he has still emerged victorious as an actor, a human being, and a father.

“I have a very strong relationship with him,” she says. “Most people think he and I aren’t very close but they’re wrong. Just because I don’t see him everyday doesn’t mean me and him aren’t close. I talk to him, I’d say, every three days?”

I asked Trishala whether or not her dad had ever expressed interest towards her entering Bollywood – a very current issue, as the recent past has seen an emergence of the star-children generation. “For Bollywood it’s completely different now. He used to express interest, but now it’s just stay out of it.” Further justifying his stance, “Girls are used mainly as props for films, which he does not want me getting into.” Once again one finds little basis to argue. Obviously there are exceptions to the rule (i.e. Kalpana Lajmi’s films).

In response to Bollywood’s foil, Hollywood: “In Hollywood you can pick and choose what you want and don’t want to do. In Bollywood you have to do what is required. Ultimately it’s the director who is going to make you a star for a Bollywood actress. If you’re good, you last maximum 3-4 years? And then you become “old” because someone new has come.”

Many in the past have expressed this very concern with Hollywood’s counterpart. Yet still Bollywood seems to remain the twinkle in the eyes of so many woman in India, hoping that after jumping through enough hoops and over enough hurdles they’ll emerge as the next Madhuri Dixit of Indian cinema.

But don’t get her wrong; Trishala had been a pretty big fan of that very Industry. “I used to know every single movie and every single song. I guess that was when I was younger. I got older, signed with modeling contracts and offers, and I’m doing law for now. I just lost touch with it.”

In response to some of her father’s most memorable performances for her: “I would have to say in his movie Vaasatv; In the end how he gets his mother to shoot her own son. That scene was very emotional and strong. I’ll never forget it.” Well Trishala, I have a feeling you’re not the only one who found that scene immensely impactful! “Also in Munnabhai. The scene where he helps one of the patients to live life and be happy.”

Both father and daughter have a tremendous amount of respect and love for one another. The distance between them may serve as an inconvenience, but by no means is it a barrier. His daughter looks up to him, as do many around the world. With this conversation as evidence, I can make two solid assertions: 1) Like father like daughter. 2) Trishala Dutt, with her ravishing good-looks, beautiful heart, and impressive maturity, will be on the high-road to success in no time.
