Hema-Amitabh star in Hollywood remake November 24, 2006

The director of film ‘Baghban’, Ravi Chopra, after making another family drama ‘Babul’ – is now treading unfamiliar territory. It seems he is all set to start his version of the Hollywood classic romance "The Bridges of Madison County". The original film was adapted from the novel by Robert James Waller and starred Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep in the lead roles.

In the film, photographer Robert Kincaid wanders into the life of housewife Francesca Johnson, for four days in the 1960s. They fall in love, but she’s married with children. The story is a touching account of two mature adults finding true love, but outside the confines of a marriage.

Interestingly, the Indian remake will star none other than Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini.

“He (Chopra) may be making the film very soon after ‘Babul’,” said Hema Malini, and added that she and Bachchan would be in the film.

While the pairing of the two actors on screen has worked well with audiences so far, Hema Malini says she is quite open to doing films with any other actor of her generation playing opposite her, as long as he is physically fit enough.

“It depends on how they look. If they are in a condition to work, I am ready to work them. It is very important for one to be presentable if you want to act in films at an advanced age,” she said.

While it would no doubt be engaging to see Hema clandestinely romance Bachchan in the film, the question is whether the Indian audiences would accept them both outside the backdrop of a family drama.

The Bachchans Together In Rakeysh Mehra’s Bhairvi! November 24, 2006

Those who were waiting for the entire Bachchan Parivar to come together for Pradeep Sarkar’s Chudiyan are in for a disappointment! However all is not lost and now news is pouring in that the Bachchan trio (Amitabh, Jaya and Abhishek) will be seen in Rakeysh Mehra’s Bhairavi. Mehra is currently working on the autobiographical “Delhi – 6″, which stars Abhishek Bachchan and Bhairavi will only roll once Delhi 6 gets over. The film is suppose to be about music and heritage:

“Yes ‘Bhairavi’ is definitely in the pipeline. Rakeysh has already sounded us out. All three of us – Jaya, Abhishek and me – are agreeable. But since it’s a very big project, it requires a great deal of planning. As of now, ‘Bhairavi’ is the only film bringing us together.
